Probation Officer: (Sighs) "No, I don't think you're lying. I checked. You're Iwakura Lain all right. Your address and phone number check out."

She stares at the virtual monitor.

It creates the illusion that the viewer unconsciously enters inside the chaos.

Lain covers her ears and closes her eyes.
Something like that is not enough to block the sound, and the muffled voice continues to torment Lain.

Voice: "As a multi-purpose information terminal, the Navi has come into wide use even among grade schoolers. However, activity with the Wired is currently limited by the machine. The Psyche can dramatically increase the performance of any Navi."
Lain covers her ears. She doesn't want to hear it.
Different voice: (Cross Fade) "There was no reason for me to stay in the real world any longer."
Lain quickly looks up. That's Chisa's voice.
Chisa: (Off) "In the real world, it didn't matter if I was there or not. When I realized that, I was no longer afraid of losing my body."
Lain squeezes her hands over her ears.

Alice: (bitter smile) "It can't be helped-. It's going to be super difficult to sneak out of our houses at night for a while."
Juri: "I'm sooo boreeed-"
Alice: -(Suddenly looks serious) "-But, there's something weird about us!"
Juri: "Weird?"
Alice: "-We saw a person dying up close yesterday, right?

Lain reflexively hides the envelope behind her.
Alice: (Notices) "Huh? That- (smiles) Could it be a looove letter?"
Juri: "No way!"
Reika: "Hey, show me show me show me!"
Lain: "N, no it's not- probably..."

〇 Road near the school
Now alone, Lain walked at a quick pace- looked around and confirmed that there were no people.
She takes the envelope out of her pocket.
There is something three-dimensional in it.
Lain tries to take the thing out of the envelope.
It's an integrated circuit about 1 cm square. There was nothing else in it.
Lain looks slightly disappointed.
玲音「ー プシューケー....」
Lain: "Psyche...."
コンテでは麗華達がプシューケーを見るという芝居に変更。
In the content, the scene changed and had Reika and the others see the Psyche.
As expected the design of Psyche is by Mr. Abe.
それを中原氏の所属するソフトハウスSR-12WでLight Wave 3Dにて3DCG化していたが、本篇では使われなかった(AX誌の連載では使用)
It was converted to 3DCG with Light Wave 3D at the software house SR-12W to which Mr. Nakahara belongs, but it was not used in the main story (used in the serialization of AX magazine)
Psyche
Psyche 魂、精神といった意味合いの語だが、"サイケデリック"の語源という方が馴染みがあるだろう。
Psyche The word has the meaning of soul and spirit, but the etymology of "psychedelic" may be more familiar.
元々はギリシャ神話で、キューピッドが愛したスピリチュアルな少女の名から来たもの。
Originally Greek mythology, it comes from the name of a spiritual girl that Cupid loved.

Suddenly, when she looked at the table in front of her, a group of elementary school students (wearing fashionable clothes) were playing with mobile NAVIs.

早い時期に、シリーズの音楽は仲井戸麗市氏の、ブルージーなものになるのが決まっていたので、こういったシーンは完全にノイズ扱いになると想定していた。
Early on, it was decided that the music in the series would be Reichi Nakaido's Bluesy (Blue-G), so I expected these scenes to be completely noisy. しかし "2nd Unit Music” とクレジットされた竹本晃氏は、ミニマルな抑圧的環境音楽をメインに、毎週毎週画面が出来てからそれに合わせて作曲するという凄まじいワークをこなす事になる 。
However, Mr. Akira Takemoto, who was credited as "2nd Unit Music", did the tremendous work of composing music on the screen every week, focusing mainly on minimal suppressive ambient music, Cyberia's music also became a variety of sounds such as ethnic techno. The role of JJ was played by Mr. Wasei Chikada, who is also a DJ, and the collaboration between the two was put together on the second soundtrack disk.
Rave
Rave「夢中で喋る」というのが本来の意味だが、1988年頃にイギリスで起こったアシッド・ハウスのムーヴメントにて野外で催されたノンストップのエレクトロニック・ダンスパーティをこう呼んでいた。
Rave's original meaning is to "be engrossed in talking", but it's called this because of the non-stop electronic dance party, which was held outdoors, during the Acid House movement that took place in England around 1988.
Organizing (オルグ)
Organize「組織する」という意味で、団塊世代であると、政治的な意味が強く感じられるだろうが、クラブ・カルチャー周辺では、イベントの主宰をするといった意味で多く使われる。

当然これは後の展開を踏まえての演出 (今話執筆時は、この三人は layer: 05 で死なせるつもりだった) プシューケーの取り付けについては、後に AX 誌の連載でより詳細な説明を書いた。

Two or three men who are all black and have no individuality. I borrowed the image of MIB (Men In Black) that appears in UFO Folklore. MIBについては、UFO関係の本を参照されたい。
For the MIB, I wanted to refer to UFO related books.
シナリオでは明確に"MIB"と表記していたが、同名のコメディ映画が公開されてしまったので、クレジット等では「黒の男たち」などと変更された。
In the scenario, it was clearly written as "MIB", but since the comedy movie of the same name was released, it was changed to "Black Men" in the credits, etc.

In the dining room, the voice of Mika reporting what happened to her mother.
Mika: (Off) "If they come again I'll definitely call the police! Are you listening to me? Mom!"
母親、小声で何か答えた様子。
Mother seems to answer something in a whisper.
然とした顔で階段を上がっていく美香。
Mika goes up the stairs with a clear face.
In front of Lain's room
On her way to her room, Mika suddenly noticed light leaking from the gap of Lain's door.
Mika: "?"
Lain's room
Mika, who opened the door and looked inside, was stunned.
Mika: "W-what are you doing, Lain?"
There are many magazines and books around Lain's desk. Tools, types of tubes.

Mika: "Lain!"
Lain slowly looks towards Mika-
Lain: (Smile) "Welcome back, onee-chan."

完成作品では、玲音はスリップ一枚になっており、「静電気がダメなんだって」という台詞と共にシリーズ屈指の名シーンとなった。
In the finished work, Lain is wearing a slip dress because of the line "be careful of static electricity/static electricity is not good", and it became one of the most famous scenes in the series. 余談ながら私も、最初に買ったMacintoshに自分でメモリ増設をした時は下着姿になったのだけれど (しかも失敗している)、最近の電子パーツはそれほどデリケートではないらしい。
As an aside, when I installed additional memory to the Macintosh I bought recently, I was in my underwear (furthermore/By the way, I failed). It seems that electric parts these days are not so delicate.
